Chimney & Fireplaces/fireplace grate

Question
We have a wood burning built in fireplace in our home.  Close to it you can really feel the warmth but the heat is really not projected into the room and beyond.  I think I remember grates that either because the pipes were hollow or for some other reason, more heat was projected outwards.  Are you aware of some type of grate that would do this?  What is it called?  Where can it be purchased?
I want to thank you very much for any assistance you an give me.  Carole Morton

Answer
Hello Carole, do a Yahoo search for "Fireplace Blower Grates" then I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help and check your fireplace to make sure it is safe to use.
