Question
We had a wood burning fireplace insert for 25 years which we have now removed.The firebrick are heavily smoaked.We want to put in gas logs. Is there something we can cover the firebrick with to give the appearance of new brick

I recommend that you have the fireplace chimney inspected prior to installing gas logs. The National Fire Protection Association NFPA-211 standard, requires a level II inspection prior to use if you change fuels. The insert may have also been installed to bypass a serious flaw within the chimney system as well.
