Question
My house is about 50 years old and the furnace and water heater are both vented into the chimney in the basement.  I get a small amount of moisture that comes through the plaster on both the 2nd and 3rd floors where the chimney is.  I have had the cap, the roof and the flashing all done and recaulked over the years.  Is it possible that the moisture is actually coming from condensation inside the chimney?  Thanks,  Pat

Answer
Hello Patrick, yes you can get moisture through the walls are you heating with natural gas?
I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
