Chimney & Fireplaces/Damaged chimney pipe

Question
I have a gas-start wood-burning fireplace in a 7 year old home.  We recently discovered 2 holes in the steel chimney pipe.  We don't use the fireplace anymore and would like to cap off the chimney and install a direct-vent gas fireplace.  Is this the most efficient option and is it possible?

Answer
Hello Barb, I am not sure what "Steel Pipe has 2 holes" but I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.if the chimney is metal and has holes then you co not use it and the sweep will be able to point you in the best direction
