Chimney & Fireplaces/gas valve

Question
QUESTION: I have a customer that has a Franklin stove and he has gas logs in it from
years ago.  They did make a set and the gas valve was installed out side the
stove.  He needs a new valve and I don't seem to be able to find them.  I have
been in the industry 13 years and in that 13 years have not come across this;
because it is just not done.  Any suggestions or if you know a place I can find
one of these would be greatly appreciated.  I will not sell him a new set.
Thanks for your help.   Bobbi

ANSWER: Hello Bobbi, you say he has gas logs in a wood burning Franklin Stove? Did you check the Franklin owners manual for this? Did the gas logs or Franklin say that was ok?
you also state "Because it is just not done" with that said tell him "this system is not right, you will not repair it (if wrong you would be liable) and offer to replace the entire system installed correctly" You do not talk about how this is installed in a chimney? is it right as per manufacturer's installation instructions.
sounds to me like this system was "ridged" and can be dangers. You also talk about "been in the industry 13 years" what industry?
some times it is just better to walk away then being married to a major problem for its life.

QUESTION: Sorry the Hearth industry, and from what I under stand the gas logs were
designed for franklin stoves and were available for just a short time.  They use
the existing flue from the wood stove for venting.  I do think you are right, I am
going to have to walk away from this thanks for your opinion.  Sincerely, Bobbi

Answer
Welcome back Bobbi, some times it is not what you want to do but "walking away" maybe the best thing for you. with out the original manufacturer's instruction on both the logs and stove I would not touch it. Your customer may not be happy but repairing a bad situation just made you reasonable for it for ever and I will not put my self or my customers in that dangers position.
