Hi,
I have brick fireplace that has an opening of 38 inch height and 28 inch wide. The Brick hearth s around 20 in wide. The header starting from the top of the opening is 25 inch height. We don't like this high because it makes the over all height of the fireplace 25 + 28 from the top of the hearth. Can i safely remove height by removing the brick? How much should be the minimum height of header. Also, We want to hang an LCD TV so is there a minimum height that i need to leave? I am sorry if i didn't use the term correctly. Thanks.

Hi Malay,

The mantel needs to be at least 12" above the top of a masonry fireplace.

There is no requirements that I am aware of for the height of a TV above the fireplace, other than what the TV manufacturer might require.
