Question
What can we do with our stone fireplace chimney freezing and breaking chunks off?  We have applied silicone spray every fall but problem persists. Please advise.  Thank you

Answer
Hello Gary, silicone will repel water from the out side but it will also hold water on the inside. you may need to remove all the exterior stone and replace it (reusing it will just do the same as what you have now) and then use a Masonry water proofing like ChimSaver.
good luck and keep me posted
