thanks a lot for your help.

Answer
Hello Joe, I am hoping this chimney has not been used at all since the earthquake for the fireplace or heating flue, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help determine if the chimney is safe (even if you do reline it), or should. be replaced. and check with your local building department on what the codes are for your area
