Chimney & Fireplaces/moving a fireplace

Question
I have a corner fireplace and want to move it from the corner to the center of wall in family room. It is 7 feet from the corner to the center of wall. Can I use the original chimney and add horizontal extension to get proper venting? If so what materials would be needed? Thanks!

Answer
Hello Kevin, no you can not move that fireplace, first you would have to dismantle it completely and rebuild it in the new place and I am not a big fan of "re using old fireplace systems"
If you want to move it buy a new system and install it where you want it and remove the old one completely. You can also contact your local wood stove store for other suggestion like direct vent gas stoves.
