Chimney & Fireplaces/removing a woodstove from basement

Question
My parents have a woodstove in their basement that they do not use and want it removed.  How difficult is it to remove and how do we do it?  Is this something that we should hire a professional for?

Answer
Hello Melissa, depending on how it was installed it might be as easy as just taking apart the pipes and closing the pipe off. It might need a cleaning, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
James
