Question
We bought a 1940s house with 2 old chimneys. no fireplaces attached. one on outside of house, and 1 right in the middle of the house and takes up a huge amount of the basement for it's base. anything special to take them out completely. Besides starting at the top that is. thanks for your advise.

Answer
Hello Terri, taking down a chimney is a big job, first do you have a heating unit venting out through it? if so then you can not take it down until you vent it else where. also check with your local building department. one last thing there might be supports that the chimney is holding up (floors and ceilings) might want to have an engineer take a look too.
