Chimney & Fireplaces/buying used stoves

Question
I am debating between buying a used wood stove from an individual (cheaper) and a new wood stove from a dealer (newer/service). What should I be asking for/looking for/ in a used stove?

Thank you.

Answer
Hello Lynne, start with your local wood stove store newer units will heat better using less wood, and burn cleaner.
also check with your local building department they may have restrictions of emission (stove store might be able to help) no matter which one you decide on have it installed correctly by a certified chimney sweep (www.csia.org)
good luck
