7 year old home
fireplace never used
no gas - all natural
no cap
moving damper results in a knocking noise( Damper will not open all the way)
bang on fireplace does the same

Hello Marta, I am not sure what you are describing, so I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
