Chimney & Fireplaces/Changing heating

Question
We presently have oil heat and are thinking of converting to gas.
We need a new liner for the chimney if we continue with oil, but they (gas company) said they would vent out of the side of the house if we use gas and I am concerned about the waste being blown back into the house and  the smell.  The vent would be directly outside windows that get the southwest wind.  Could the gas waste be vented though the chimney and would I need a new liner?

Answer
Hello Steven, depending on the unit they are installing you might not be able to use the chimney to vent it, (you have to check with them) as far as odor and gas coming back into the house there are local building codes they must adhere to and you should not have any problems
