Question
I need to know how to block an existing stove pipe that is on the upper level of a residence while keeping the lower connection available for a back up heat source.  What do I need to do to keep the heat from causing a fire hazard on the second level?

Answer
Hello Joe, you can not have two entires in a flue on different floors if you want to remove from 1st floor and move (or use latter) in the basement, you should reline (and insulate) the flue and cement up the 1st floor hole. I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
James
