Chimney & Fireplaces/CERAMIC BBQ SMOKER

Question
I have a large round green ceramic smoker I brought back on a C-5 from 'Nam in '70s.  It is a great cooker but the inside pieces have broken into 2 or 3 pieces each over the years of cooking and moving.  It still functions but I thought maybe I could glue them all back together with some good fire resistant cement or epoxy.  The egg shaped smoker has an eighteen inch top steel grid resting on an eighteen inch round ceramic ring about 5-6 inches high and broken into two pieces; under that is a 3 legged fire bowl about 12 inches high that supports the ring, its also broken in two places.   Inside the fire bowl is a one inch thick ceramic grate with 3/4 " holes that allow the ash to fall through between the legs for removal; this is broken in 3 pieces.  Which of the various cements, etc. available will do a reasonable job of extending the life of this old reliable or how do you recommend I proceed??

Answer

This unit sounds like the "Big Green Egg"

I would try and find a dealer/Manufacturer for the BBQ that you have and see what they say. I know that you can buy "Refractory Cement" that you could use to try and put it all together again. Not sure how well it would work but its a good last resort.

I've attached a pic of the Green Egg as a reference.
