Chimney & Fireplaces/Finding a Chimmney Cap made around 1990s for our Condo community

Question
Hi,
I live in a Condo complex of about 200 units.  There were several builders as they add on with more buildings.
About 50 units have Chimney caps that unfortunately have a slit for venting on the side. Birds find there way in and nest inside making a mess.
The units up front have chimney caps that keep birds out.
The Board is trying to find chimney caps that will match the chimney caps that are on the other buildings that keep birds out.
Any idea how we can search for these 1989-1990 caps.
Are there serial numbers or something we can start our search with?  Or maybe try to locate the builders which I don't know if they know that.
HELP

Answer
Hello Charlotte, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help. you might be ale to replace all caps with a Weathers Field cap, this way they would all match. but you should try to replace with OEM. the sweep should be able to tell if you can use these caps.
Hope this helps
James
