Chimney & Fireplaces/cracked fireplace box

Question
Hey there,

I was told a couple of years ago that I had a crack in the metal box of my fireplace.  It was suggested that this was potentially dangerous as CO2 can build up.  I've been unable to find a welder to come to my home. Is this actually dangerous and is it easily fixable?

Thanks,

Answer
Hello Brian, I do not know if a welder can fix this it might just re crack at the next fire.
I do not know if CO2 will build up but you might have a fire burn through. I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
James
