Chimney & Fireplaces/insert / drafts

Question
I recently purchased a home with a wood burning insert. I pulled it all apart to see why it was so drafty. It has a 6" s.s liner in a 3'-2' chimney. What can I do to seal the open area to stop the draft? I purchased some fire retardant insulation will that work?

Answer
Hello Jim, is it lined to the top? is the liner insulated? here in the USA I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you or you can call them) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help to be sure it is installed correctly and it is safe to use.
Hope this helps
James
