QuestionQUESTION: can i reline my oil liner at the size of 6 pipe, flute tile is 8x8
with a cap without relining the chimney if so at what cost.
thanks
ANSWER: Hello Karen, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep (www.csia.org, there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have, to be sure you really need this liner for your oil flue and check with your oil company (for the right sizing) and local building department for any permits needed.
Cost, hard to say with out seeing it, depends on what type of liner you use and who might do it, lenght, high roof, insulation if needed?
Hope this helps

QUESTION: thanks for that had no idea about permits but, anyway reason i ask my house filled up with smoke on monday morning had a fire in the fire place on saturday night had to call 911 had a chimney sweep here that day and he gave me an estimate for chimney liner for oil 1895.00 and for the fireplace 2286.00 do i need to get them both done
AnswerWelcome back Karen, smoke may have been from a negative pressure not a chimney issue (Negative pressure in your home (house stack effect) that is hot air rising in your home (and getting out through the attic vents, doors, lights, another fireplace (is it closed?)) your house is a better chimney than your chimney. Also kitchen/bathroom exhaust fans, clothes dryers, Radon systems and the boiler/furnace all take house air out of the house (mechanical negative pressure) your house needs make up air, perhaps an open window in the basement? Or stop the air from getting out the attic and other areas.
Trail and error until you get this fireplace to work for you, maybe close off the room from the rest of the house to use it (close doors)
do I think you need both liners...I don't thing so, contact the Certified sweep at least get a second opinion.
