Question
Is it ok to run my single wall black stove pipe through the terracotta thimble?  The thimble is installed properly with the correct amount of mortar around and the thimble appears to be in great shape, no visible cracks.  I would like to set my new pipe through the thimble into the lined chimney if that is ok.  Also, what do you recomend to fill the gap around the pipe at the thimble.  There shouldn't be much space left, but needs filled with something.  Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Hello Jason, if this is a boiler/furnace or hot water heater you can use "furnace cement" if this is a wood stove (what it sounds like with black stove pipe) you can use a bit of t his too or a "increaser" to make it fit snug
is this flue and thimble  properly sized for your appliance?
