Chimney & Fireplaces/8" stove to 6" chimney

Question
I have an airtight wood Earth Stove with an 8" chimney outlet.  I have an existing 6" double wall S.S.chimney that I would like to use straight up from the stove .  What negative affect will I have by reducing the 8 to 6?
Thanks

Answer
Hello Todd, by code NFPA you can not down size any solid flue.  If you do it and you cause a fire or some one gets hurt authorities and Insurance companies will want to know who to blame, it could be criminal, or void your home owners insurance. Either replace the stove with a 6" or replace the pipe with an 8" all flue. Also check with your local building department they will say the same thing. Sorry
