Question
I have a three year old house. I found out that when they built it they never installed a storm collar. I think it need a 12inch. I can I find out for sure what size I need? Also I found a cheap one that is galvanized. Is that a good metal? I know their are aluminum and stainless steel. Whats the best?

Answer
Hello James, stainless is best but galvanized is #2,  if you have the galvanized use it and run a bead of silicone around the top of the storm collar after it is installed. to find out for sure what size you have remove the cap and measure the diameter and that is the size you need. there is a formula for figuring the diameter if you measure the circumference but I do not know what it is.
good luck should be easy.
James
