Question

fireplace
I have an ugly 1950's fireplace.  It's gas. It sticks out from the wall: 5 inches above the mantle, 9 inches below the mantle, and the hearth is about 20 inches. Can I take off the brick so my fireplace will be flush with the wall? Is that a huge undertaking?

Answer
Hello Nancy, 1st check with your local building department for what is required for
Hearth Extension and clearance to combustibles, then a good mason to do the work and have the gas logs removed by some one that works on gas lines. it may be a large undertaking but get some prices.
