Question
We have a free standing stove that we use in the winter. We have been told that it helps to keep the flue clean by throwing in a handful of rock salt occasionally. We just recently has a stainless steel liner placed in the flue, and we mentioned the salt idea to them. They told us it would not be a good idea to use salt as it might damage the liner. What do you think? Greatly appreciated, Richard
Hi Richard,
You should NOT use rock salt. This is a corrosive agent and should NEVER be used.
I recommend you contact a local CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep to do your chimney servicing.
