Chimney & Fireplaces/How to fix our rock fireplace

Question
Hi
I'm hoping you can help. We have just bought a place with a rock fireplace
installed in the living room. The guy that did it, did a really bad job. I think he
used a rock kit. Along the floor (hardwood) there are big gaps (and is not
uniform) because he didn't use the same size rocks along the bottom. I'm
wondering what we can do to fix that and also to seal it somehow to help with
the dust from the grout.
Is there some sort of baseboard that would work along the bottom, should we
just fill in the holes with something? We are at a loss as to how to make it
look more appealing - rather than tearing the whole lot out. Thanks Looking
forward to hearing from you.

Answer
Hello Donna, not sure what you have there, but if you want to use Mortar that would fill the gap (Mason) or wood would have to be scribed and cut to fit (carpenter), be sure to check with your local building department for proper clearance to combustibles.
