Chimney & Fireplaces/propane fireplace

Question
I bought a new home that has a propane fireplace, i want to convert it to wood or pellet is there a way to do this without installing a chimney and use the excisting direct vent from the propane fireplace, thanks

Answer
Hello Brian, that is a self contained unit and the pipes are for that unit, you can not just run a wood or pellet stove into that pipe. Some pellet stoves allow you to dump out side with a very small chimney, but you would have to follow their install instructions and your local building department. A wood stove would require a chimney and following their install instructions and your local building department.
hope this helped
