does the factory built wood burning fireplace have to be removed to put in a wood burning insert or do you just slide it in the old metal pre fab unit /

Hello Matt, both the prefab and insert have to be designed to be used with each other, you just can't slide any insert into a "old metal pre fab unit". it is not safe
You would have to replace the entire prefab unit with a new set up, fireplace, chimney every thing designed for an insert.
