Chimney & Fireplaces/Burning wood in a gas fireplace

Question
I have a Majestic fireplace Model M36. #F754121. Serial #12077821. I would like to burn real wood in it this winter. is it safe? I read online that I have to "cap" the gas supply, which makes me nervous. I thought when I turned off the gas with the key it was safe.

A friend of mine says she uses the same type of fireplace with real wood. I had a chimney sweep look at it 2 years ago when I had it cleaned and she said I could put real wood in there. I've removed the artificial wood and picked up some real wood that a friend uses.

Can I use the long horizontal pole with holes in it to light the fire? Do you know where I can pick up a user's manual? Basically - can I burn real wood in this fireplace? Thanks

Answer
Hello Penny in most cases (not sure what yours is) these fireplaces are set up for wood and some one installs a gas line and logs, to go back the gas line must be removed (plumber) and the hole sealed (maybe a piece of metal) here is Majestic's web page for the manual, http://legacy.majesticproducts.com/content/support/manuals.cfm?browse=search
I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep www.csia.org, (there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have, they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
