Chimney & Fireplaces/Insert with smoke problems (Trueheat)

Question
I'm helping a single mom.  She can save a lot on electric heat if we can make the insert work.
While I saw smoke going up the chimney, it also entered the room. I tried closing the glass doors and it still entered some.  The unit has glass doors and above that a space for the blower air output.  between the two is a space where the smoke can enter. Behind the space is a metal shield.  Can the space between shield and front panel be blocked with something, such as fiberglass?  What else could help?
This is installed in a mobile home, 1980's.

Answer
Hello Jeff not sure what you have there, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep www.csia.org, (there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have, they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
James
