Chimney & Fireplaces/Superior Fireplace CF3860 Wax-like Smell

Question
Hello James,

I have a Superior CF3860 Fireplace in my home.  When we build a fire, we
eventually get a wax-like or crayon-like smell coming from the fireplace.  We
are burning hardwood.  Any ideas what could be causing this smell?  I am
afraid it may be some kind of insulation or material heating up around the
fireplace.  Thanks for your help.

Answer
Hello Mike, if t his is a brand  new unit it might just be burning off the oils on the metal if not then you may have to open up the wall and ceiling to investigate further, I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep www.csia.org, (there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have, they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
James
