Chimney & Fireplaces/gas fireplace

Question
We have a gas fireplace and want to know if we can burn it with the flue closed.  When the flue is open, all the heat goes up the chimney and not into the house.

Answer
Hello Brian, most gas logs have a "stop" that keeps the damper open a bit (about an inch for safety) and must be used, you can check the Gas Log owners manual for what is required, if you are looking for heat then you could replace the gas logs with a wood stove or insert if you fireplace will accept one.
you could try a set of glass doors if your fireplace will accept one.
