Question
while trying to close damper the blade slid out of slot. is this something i can fix? it kind of slide backwards

Answer
Hello Darla, you might be able to fix it, most dampers sit in a track and pivot open and closed when you slide the damper handle in and out, so set up a shop vac, put on a good dust mask, gloves and safety goggles and drop light, look up inside at the damper and see if you can lift it up and into place, then try it, notice how the handle slides straight in and not down.
you could have a local Certified Chimney Sweep www.csia.org, (there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
