Question
My fireplace chimney is about 10'Lx4'Wx3'H,that comes thru roofline in center of house. It is a single flue system made of stone and mortar, built in 1957.The top crown-cap is made of mortar and is the same size as the chimney and sits about 18inches above flue supported by four piers of stone and mortar and is about 4inches thick.I had a stainless steel cover made to fit over the entire mortar crown with 5inch vertical side all around. What would be your recommendation to mounting this cover, its approximately 130lbs.thank you for your time, sincerely William

Answer
Hello William, it sounds like you have a "flag stove cap" that will need to be removed then install your "cover", maybe using silicone or constructions adhesive.  You should install a screened cap over your cover to keep out water, leaves, animals...
