Question
I would like a double-sided gas fireplace in the middle of a big room. What is the lowest height the top of the fixture can be with only one chimney pipe coming from the top of the fireplace?

I was told there has to be 2 flues with a minimum of 400mm above the fireplace before they can be combined to one chimney. Is this correct?

Several thing should be considered before starting this project. The biggest one being the see through fireplace have a difficult time operating because of pressure issues with the home. often time they spill smoke and CO. I would recommend a direct vent closed system and you will enjoy the experience much safer. Even if there was a formula for this install, it wouldn't work in every situation.
