Chimney & Fireplaces/Adding a Fireplace

Question
I am buying a home built in 1953 and there is a chimney used to heat the place.  The home has been updated and it is no longer used for that reason.  Since the chimney is just sitting there unused I wanted to add a wood burning fireplace to the existing chimney.  Is that a possibility and if so about how much would something like that cost?

Thanks,
Prutha

Answer
Hello Pshah, a fireplace needs a footing you might be able to do a wood stove into that un used flue or a direct vent gas fireplace,I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep www.csia.org, (there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
