Question
I am building a fire pit on my raised concrete patio.  It will be a U shaped fire pit.  I wanted to get some feedback on my design.  It will be 13 rows high, 22 house bricks per row.  I was going to line the inside with fire brick and use refractory mortar mix.  I will also add 2 grille grates to be able to use charcoal and cook food.  Any advice or tips on getting started?

That sounds like a fun project. The use of fire brick as the inside liner will be most beneficial as the standard brick is not fired at at a high enough temperature to stand up to the heat. You may wish to consult a mason on this service for questions related to starting this project from a construction point of view. Good luck and enjoy your fire pit.
