Question
We have a fireplace with a metal firebox.  I'm sure the wood burned in the fireplace must cause some corrosive effects on the metal firebox.  How should the fireplace be maintained?

David,

I would recommend hiring a chimney sweep to service the system first and then inspect the system to the NFPA-211, level II standard. Sweeping the corrosive creosote away from the system will help to prolong it's life. Additionally, keeping water away from the inside of the system will help as well.
