Question
I am planing on building a 28" x 28" inner opening if I did my math correctly with your previous answer 4ft. x 4ft. would require a 17 x 17 inch flue. Also Would I need to use fire brick and fire rated mortar for the flue.

4ft. X 4ft. would require a minimum flue size of 15.25 X 15.25. The suggested size would be 17 X 17. If your new opening is 28" X 28", then your flue size recommendation is 10 X 10 and the minimum would be 9 X 9. Hope this helps. Sorry this answer took a wile, I was traveling.
