Chimney & Fireplaces/Fire Box Mortar

Question
I have an outdoor fireplace, approximately 10 years old. I live near the ocean. The firebox mortar is chalky and/or is coming out.
How can I repair or stop the loss of the mortar?

Answer
Hello Steve, they might not have used the correct mortar to begin with and it should have very thin mortar lines, check with a local mason, or I would have a local Certified Chimney Sweep www.csia.org, (there you can look up by zip code to find one near you) take a first hand look at what you have they should be able to help.
Hope this helps
