Question
Hello James,
I use oil burner to heat my house. One chimney cleaner insisted it will be illegal in New York City to install a chimney cap? My neighbors some have chimney cap and some don't have. Which one is correct and why?

Happy Summer,
Brian

Answer
Hero Brian, I live and work in West Chester county and south west CT. and there are no laws out here like that, but NYC might be different check with your local building department, they should tell you it is ok to use a cap on your chimney (you might also check with your oil company.
