Question
Hello, I have a bad downdraft in my wood-burning fireplace chimney, so bad that I need to seal up the glass enclosure in the winter. There's a flue closure that doesn't close tightly, but even if that was repaired I don't believe it would solve the problem. which I've been told is due to the height of the chimney and the cold outside wall. I'm considering making this a gas burning fireplace, which I'm assuming will involve some sealing up of the flue? Will this solve my downdraft problem? Thanks.!
Hi Roberta,
You need to solve the problem of negative pressure in your home.
Do NOT install gas logs without solving this issue. If you do, you might have a serious CO problem.
I recommend you contact a local CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep who is trained in solving negative pressure issues to do some on-site diagnosis of your problem and to offer some solutions.
