Question
I have a wood burning fireplace that I use alot and I just noticed that on the outside of my house, there is a spot where the bricks are turning black.  What could this mean and should it be a concern to stop using my fireplace.

Susan,

That depend on the cause of the black spot. It could be mold, creosote,or something else. I would recommend an NFPA-211, level II inspection be performed prior to using just to make certain.
