Question
In an older external 2 story masonry fireplace chimney,a flexible one piece liner has been put down an attached to the wood burning fireplace insert. The flu did not allow room for wrapping the liner with insulation, so from the top of the chimney I insulated the top 6 or 8 feet with
pink insulation (paper removed)between the liner and flu as much as I could in the space available. Is this safe?

I don't know. The reason I don't know is this was never tested for safety and heat transfer with attic insulation. Attic insulation was never tested to handle temperatures above 160 degrees. If the round liner will not fit without it's insulation as required, perhaps an oval liner would? Hope this helps and good luck.
