Chimney & Fireplaces/firebrick

Question
What exactly is the purpose of firebrick in a wood burning stove?  After all there is no firebrick on the firebox roof, and this is probably the hottest surface.  If it is just to allow placement of the stove closer to a flammable wall, wouldn't firebrick be unnecessary in situations where there is no flammable wall or such a wall is as far away from the stove as is the room ceiling?

Answer
Hello Bob, I have to agree I do not know why, but I know if they have it then it much be replaced as the stove was tested that way and I would not use the stove with the fire brick removed that stove might get to hot and buckle, there is a baffle above the flame that redirects heat
