Question
QUESTION: We have a Temtex Productions prefab fireplace, Model #TLC39-2 for which we need new firebrick to replace the existing cracked and degrading brick lining. Can we purchase this ourselves to save some money, but have a chimney sweep do the installation? If so, where can it be found? Thanks!

ANSWER: Hello Joan, they are called "refractory panels" and you should try to find original ones first, if you can not then they do make after market ones.
I would have a certified chimney sweep take a first hand look (www.csia.org)
some might not install your stuff but only their own

QUESTION: We don't know where to find the original refractory panels. Any suggestions? Do you know if Temtex is out of business? And if so, then where should we look? Thanks for your help!

Answer
Welcome back Joan, if your local certified sweep can not find them (I could not find any thing on the at the National Chimney Sweep Guild web site) then try a google for the Refractory panels and either try to install them your self or have the sweep do it (they should have a supplier for them)
I would still have the chimney inspected before and after If you do it.
