re. FLUE FOR HOT WATER HEATER

Dear Randy Brooks:

My hot water heater flue goes to one side of the house and my floor gas heater's flue goes out to the opposite side of the house. both are in the basement. Is there any problem if I remove the HWH flue and connect a new horizontal run to the one from the floor heater? In another word, can one flue take care of the two?

No. Each appliance must have a dedicated flue if the vent size is equal to the collar size or exit hole of the appliance. this should be the case with each of your appliances. You can have a single larger sized flue installed that can Handel both appliances though. You can consult a qualified gas venting specialist in your area to determine the adequate size needed for safe and code compliant venting and go from there. best of luck to you.
