Chimney & Fireplaces/flue issue

I have a seasonal home in rural southern Colorado (stucco) that was built in the early 1980's. I am removing the heatilator manufactured fireplace (which is no small task) and installing a zero-clearance high-efficiecy wood burning fireplace in the alcove where the heatilator was installed.
The BIS fireplace I would like to use specifies using only ASHT 6" insulated chimney pipe. The flue on this heatilator unit is 8" insulated and I would rather not rip it all out as there is about 20' in the chase.
I understand the dynamics of using a 6" for a good draught and creasote mitigation, but this fireplace will use external combustion air and the flue is in a chase. I've had two installers tell me they could put on an adapter when I was considering an insert for the old fireplace.
What do you think?
Thanks for any help.

Hi Jerry,

I apologize for the delay answering your question. I am on a business trip and out of the office.

You ABSOLUTELY must use ONLY Security chimney pipe with this installation.  NO other piping is approved.

The two installers who gave you the wrong information regarding this should not even be considered for working on your hearth appliances.

Rip the old pipe out, and replace the entire system with the correct, matched, listed components.

And don't use those installers.  Find NFI Certified installers at
