Hello - I have acquired a home with two factory-built fireplaces that were not permitted. I understand from the County that we need to acquire the installation instructions for both of them in order to get them permitted, and I cannot find a thing on the Internet.  All I have are the ID plates on the inside of the box.  Can you help point me in the right direction?  I suspect they are looking for the specs.  We believe the construction was done in 1979-1983 time frame.

Woodside Factory Built Fireplace Models W-28 and W-36, plant DL and BI, respectively.
Dura-Vent is also on the label.

thank you!

Answer
Teri,

Dura Vent is still in operation manufacturing chimney systems and not any longer, factory built fireplaces. You can "Google" Dura Vent and find them easily. That being said, if your construction dates are accurate and I'm sure they are, your factory built fireplaces are at least 30 years old. These products are temporary appliances much like a water heater or furnace. They have a life expectancy of 25 years tops and these have surpassed that to say the least. Check with Dura Vent on the manuals but I believe removal and replacement may be in your future. Best of luck.
