Where does the air come from to provide cooling of the space between the inner and outer wall of the double wall flue pipe.  Should there be an outside source as there is for the fire box?

Hello Bruce, the box the fire box sits in is not air tight, so the air for the double wall pipe comes from that  area around the box and no  you do not need out side are for it, read the install instructions that should have all the info you need to install that type of chimney.
Hope this helped
